The 1915Çanakkale Bridge is one of the world's most significant bridge projects due to its size. With a huge span of 2023 meters, it is the world's longest suspension bridge. Its 318-meter red towers make it the tallest suspension bridge as well. Let's take a closer look at this special project that connects the continents of Europe and Asia.

Location

On March 18, 2022, Turkey opened the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, which is one of the country's most significant projects. The bridge connects the Gallipoli and Lapseki districts of Çanakkale, reducing the passage through the Dardanelles to just 6 minutes. It also connects the continents of Europe and Asia.

The Design

The design of the 1915Çanakkale Bridge is reminiscent of the 18 March Çanakkale Victory, which was won on the Gallipoli Peninsula. The towers, which reflect the colors of the Turkish flag, are 318 meters long. Replicas of the cannonballs of Seyit Onbaşı, the symbol of the Çanakkale Victory, are placed at the top of the towers. The feet of the viaduct are designed to remind people of the Martyrs Monument.

Construction Process
The 1915Çanakkale Bridge is the first bridge to cross the Dardanelles Strait. South Korean companies won the project tender and carried out the construction. The bridge was completed as part of the 325 kilometer-long Kınalı-Tekirdağ-Çanakkale-Savaştepe Highway Project.

Awards
The 1915Çanakkale Bridge has received multiple awards that attest to its prestige as a project. These include the International Road Federation (IRF) Global Road Achievement Award, the European Structural Steel Association Road and Railway Bridges Category First Place award, the T.R. Ministry of Labor and Social Security (SGK) Highest Paying Company Award, the Korean Civil Engineering Association award, and the 2022 International Category Building of the Year Award.
