The World Architects Congress 2023 (UIA) is a prestigious global event that brings together architecture professionals. This exciting congress provides a platform for idea sharing and addresses the most current topics in the international architecture community. In the 5th edition this year, the congress focused on innovation, sustainability, urban transformation, preservation of cultural heritage, and cities of the future. The program included presentations, workshops, and panel discussions.

We're discussing the UIA World Congress of Architects 2023 and more!

UIA World Congress of Architects
The UIA World Architects Congress, organized by the International Union of Architects (UIA), is an international event held every three years. It brings together architecture professionals worldwide and provides a prestigious platform for discussing the latest developments in the field. The congress has previously been held in cities such as Rio (2021), Seoul (2017), Durban (2014), and Tokyo (2011). For the 2023 event, Turkey was also a candidate to host the event, but it ultimately took place in Copenhagen.

Why Copenhagen?

Copenhagen, chosen as the World Capital of Architecture, is renowned for its sustainable architecture and environmentally friendly practices. The city is known for its outstanding achievements and innovative projects in the fields of architecture and urban planning. Copenhagen has a dynamic architectural community that supports excellence and innovation in architecture.

Furthermore, Copenhagen's compatibility with the congress's main theme of sustainability provides a fitting backdrop for the UIA World Architects Congress this year.

Sustainable Future Leaves No One Behind
At the UIA World Architects Congress 2023, held between July 2nd and 6th, architecture professionals came together to discuss forward-looking solutions in the areas of sustainability and social equity. The theme of the congress was "Sustainable Futures – Leaving No One Behind," emphasizing the importance of sustainability for the future of the world. Impactful speeches and presentations further underscored this message.

One of the speakers in the program was Kunle Adeyemi, an architect by profession and a renowned thought leader and speaker. He participated in a session titled "Fundamental Thought Dialogues: Climate Adaptation - Building for an Uncertain Future." In his speech, he emphasized the following statement that captures the essence of the topic: "Stop building for billionaires and start building for people. The key lies in your hands; look into your hands.”

Different Events, One Address

In addition to speeches and panels, the five-day program included various workshops and tours. These included bike tours, boat tours, and city runs, which allowed participants to explore Copenhagen's unique architecture.
