We are deeply saddened by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. We express our condolences to those who lost their relatives in the earthquakes that had painful effects in 10 provinces and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured. We convey our best wishes to our citizens who lost their homes and cities.

We have been working with all our efforts since the first day to fulfill our duty in this period where wounds are trying to be healed. Our coordinated support with AHBAP, AFAD, and Eskişehir Chamber of Industry has been ongoing from the very beginning. We would like to emphasize that we will continue to provide support to the needs of the regions by maintaining our communication with relevant institutions and organizations from now on.

This challenging process once again showed us how important it is to be able to communicate in a natural disaster. For this, we wanted to list the mobile applications that can save lives in earthquakes and other natural disasters.

1- AFAD Emergency

This application was developed by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). It warns users during an earthquake and shares information about the magnitude, location, and depth of the earthquake. It also informs users about what to do before and after an earthquake. The application can be downloaded for free.

2- IamSafe

The application was developed by AKUT. Specially developed for use during natural disasters. Telephone lines can be locked during and after a disaster. Therefore, there may be problems in communicating. By clicking on the I am safe button in the application, you can send the information 'I am safe' to the people in the phone book. In the event of a disaster, your location information is automatically sent to the phone numbers defined in the application via SMS. No internet connection is required to use the application. The SMS right must be defined in your tariff or the credit of the telephone tariff must be open for the message to be transmitted.

3- Acil Yardım

The application developed by the T.R. Ministry of Health ensures that your location information is transmitted to the nearest emergency service in case of an emergency. To log in to the application, T.R. Identity Number and e-Nabız password are required.

4- Düdüğüm

It is a mobile application that can help determine the location by blowing a whistle in emergencies. A message about your location information is sent to two different numbers that are defined in the application. When the application is opened, the volume is set to the highest value. The screen light is automatically set to the lowest level so that the phone does not run out of charge.

5- Life360

Although it is not an application developed for emergencies, its features can provide ease of use in emergencies. The application shows real-time location information. You can see the real-time location of your family and close friends. The application contains many life-saving features such as phone charge percentage, vehicle speed indicator, and silent help requests in case of vehicle accidents or emergencies.

6- Bridgefy

It is an application that enables messaging without an internet connection. The app is effective up to 100 meters in diameter and helps to communicate with people nearby via Bluetooth. An Internet connection is required only when you open the application for the first time.

7- LastQuake

LastQuake can be a very useful application for those who want to follow the latest earthquakes. The app reports the latest earthquakes around the world in real-time. Shares information about the size, location, and depth of the earthquake.

8- Earthquake Network

Earthquake Network measures the shaking in the event of an earthquake thanks to the sensors on the smartphones and sends a warning message to the users. Also, the "Nearby Earthquakes" section shows earthquakes that have occurred in the last 24 hours.

The above mobile earthquake applications can be used in Turkey. It can be very useful to exhibit correct behavior during an earthquake situation. However, these practices alone are not enough to save lives. As experts recommend, stay calm and avoid unfixed items during an earthquake. You should DROP to a safe place and COVER on your knees to protect your head and neck, then HOLD ON to a stable place to avoid falling.
