Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly developing technology that has made incredible progress in recent years. Popular platforms such as Chat GBT, DALL-E, or Midjourney operate based on AI technology and are used in many different sectors. It's expected that AI will soon replace many professions. One subject of great interest is the role and prospects of AI in architecture. Can AI, which is currently being used in architecture, replace architects?

1 - How Does AI (Artificial Intelligence) Work?

To begin with, let us explain what artificial intelligence (AI) is and what it is capable of. The term Artificial Intelligence (AI) was first used in 1956. Although AI was once only capable of solving problems, it has undergone significant development and advancement in recent years. Today, AI is used in many different fields and can work with various technologies and methods.

Artificial intelligence technology is aimed to imitate human intelligence. It works with stored data and different methods and technologies that process them. Machine learning, artificial neural networks, deep learning, and cognitive learning are just a few of them.

Working with big data, artificial intelligence is constantly improving its problem-solving skills. Unlike humans, it is not affected by emotions when completing tasks and cannot make decisions on its own unless it is instructed to do so. However, since decision-making skills are basic human skills, artificial intelligence cannot handle a job completely like a human. It can only produce work based on the data it has available to it.

2 - Provides Fast Results

Architectural projects are influenced by both customer demands and environmental conditions. Throughout the design and completion stages, the project undergoes numerous changes. As a result, the traditional project drawing process can be challenging to navigate. However, artificial intelligence provides significant benefits in this area.

AI-supported software is fast, tireless, and efficient, providing instant results and the ability to create many design variations in a short time. This allows the architect to focus more easily on the project and have more time for creative ideas. Artificial intelligence thus increases project efficiency and facilitates the creation of the right design.

3 - Creates Environmentally Responsive Design
Architectural practices vary depending on culture, climate, and personal preferences. To produce effective work in different geographies, architects need to conduct long-term analyses. However, artificial intelligence can transform their designs into more environmentally friendly and sustainable ones. Artificial intelligence technology can list important information thanks to its multiple data processing and analysis capabilities. This makes the architect's job easier and allows them to work in more detail in less time, while still creating an environmentally friendly design.

4 - Makes Construction Safer
Architecture is a multidisciplinary profession that requires cooperation among various business lines to construct buildings. However, disruptions and changes can make it difficult to stay organized during the process. In such cases, artificial intelligence (AI) can help enhance organization by quickly notifying relevant individuals of any issues that occur on the construction site. AI can also keep a record of similar problems that have occurred in the past and highlight necessary information to resolve issues more efficiently. By analyzing how previous problems were solved, AI can help workers address potential construction problems safely and effectively.

After considering all of these arguments, it can be concluded that artificial intelligence cannot replace architects. However, it can certainly facilitate their work. With the help of artificial intelligence, architects can work more efficiently, and projects can be made more environmentally friendly and sustainable.

As ASPEN, we continue production without slowing down with our values of original design, quality, and product diversity. We add an aesthetic dimension to the design of buildings with our suspended ceiling (wood/metal), partition wall, raised floor, and LED lighting products.
